This week several members of Battlab presented at the Ontario Community Paramedicine Knowledge Exchange Expo, hosted by Ontario Health and the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs.

First up was Chelsea Lanos, who presented on her recent first-author paper “Identifying the context-specific roles enacted by community paramedics in Canada.” This represents the first time that the specific roles of community paramedics have been identified across Canada, and form the foundation of the recently published Ontario Community Paramedic Competency Framework.

Next, Dr. Alan Batt introduced the audience to the Ontario Community Paramedic Competency Framework, outlined its development process, and answered questions on the mechanisms needed to ensure its implementation including regulatory reform and whole of career development options.

Finally, Cheryl Cameron co-presented with Mathieu Grenier on the Healthcare Excellence Canada Paramedics and Social Prescribing initiative, where 24 of the 36 teams come from Ontario paramedic services. Teams shared their success stories as part of the presentation, and Shannon Leduc spoke on behalf of Ottawa Paramedic Service.

In addition to presenting, other members of Battlab were on hand – JD Heffern emceed the event including several panel discussions, and Brianna Wilson supported the delivery and evaluation of CPoCUS training workshops. It was also a pleasure to see the Canadian version of ‘Community Paramedicine’ launched by Class Professional at the event, co-edited by Shannon Leduc and Matt Cruchet, with a foreword by Dr. Alan Batt.
