OAPC re: self-regulation of paramedics in Ontario

It was a pleasure to speak to the Eastern Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs meeting today in Kingston on the self-regulation of paramedics in Ontario.

I explored the next steps required to move away from a medical-dominant towards a profession-led model of governance, and outlined the opportunities this move will present to improve equity of access to care for Ontarians. Self regulation will also help to advance the paramedicine workforce through increased autonomy, agency, and opportunities for advanced practice.

Most importantly, self-regulation will improve trust in the profession, and better protect the public by holding paramedics accountable to a high standard of professional and personal conduct.

Thank you Chief Mike Slatter for the invite to speak to the group today.
